Attorney Benton holds a Master of Arts in Arab Studies from Georgetown University and a Juris Doctor from Georgetown University Law Center. She has spent the last 14 years of her career helping people outside their home countries access some measure of stability in their lives – whether as a teacher to refugees in Jordan, a refugee resettlement coordinator in Egypt, a researcher studying solutions to displacement in Iraq, or, most recently, as an attorney representing non-citizens in a range of immigration processes in the U.S.

Attorney Benton has written extensively on the asylum and refugee systems, and her work has appeared in the Georgetown Immigration Law Journal, the Journal of Peacebuilding and Development, and Refugee Studies Quarterly, among other outlets.

She also is an adjunct professor with the University of Maryland Carey School of Law and the University of Maryland undergraduate pre-law program, where she teaches courses on U.S. naturalization and citizenship.

She provides legal services in English, Spanish, and Arabic.
